Poole Harbour Birdboat

My family love me so much they bought me a ticket for today's Birdboat around Poole Harbour with a stopover on Brownsea Island. A single ticket. Do you think they're trying to tell me something? The air was still and so was the water, which made the job of picking up birds much easier. Not ideal conditions for photography due to the low light, but a selection of the highlights are below.
Female Eider - one of two south of Brownsea

Goldeneye - one of several small flocks east and south of Brownsea

Seahouses

The sight and sound of Eider Ducks in the harbour at Seahouses was one of the highlights of my trip to the Farne Islands. After years spent watching them distantly on seawatches at Dungeness and Portland Bill, this was a welcome contrast. Close views also make you appreciate what a substantial bird they are, and that what the female lacks in colour, she makes up for in subtle beauty.
