There has been something of an influx of Crimson Speckled moths in recent days with about 25 reported from around the country. One of these made it into the fridge at work today thanks to County Ecologist and moth-boff Phil Sterling, having been attracted to a moth trap he set up overnight in West Bexington. This exquisite footman frequents dry habitats in southern Europe and North Africa, and immigrants here are thought to originate from the Mediterranean population.
